What is Wrong with Us?
…..Is anything REALLY wrong with us?
What is Wrong with Us?…..Is anything REALLY wrong with us?
(I just posted a comment on a beautiful Medium column about the excess of tragedy and blindness in the world that ended with the question, “What is wrong with us?” In our Effortless Liing Community, we’ve been exploring the foundations of mindfulness since the beginning of this month — awareness of sensations and feeling qualities (pleasant, unpleasant and nuetral). We begin with mindfulness of emotions next week. Although the comment below is not directly related, I think it’s actually a really good start to looking at, being with, caring for, loving all emotions that arise, in a deeply calm, mindful, open way)
Here is the comment I wrote
What is wrong with us?
Is it something wrong or is this part of the earthly theatre?
And how would we know?
What standard are we judging things by?
Some say earth is a vale of tears, and we’re meant to endure it until we get to heaven.
Others go further say none of this is real, it’s all an illusion.
The fundamaterialists (materialists, sometimes called “physicalists”) say this is ultimately a non mental world.
And being a non mental world, there’s no meaning, purpose or direction to anything; it’s just dead particle/waves moving through chaos.
And there are a few who see this world as already Divine, and if only “the doors of perception” were cleansed, as Blake put it, we would see everything as it truly is, Infinite?
****
But there are a few who see an evolutionary purpose — an evolution of consciousness, and some are not flaky woo New Age types but great philosophers, sages and seers. What if this seeming insanity of not listening to each other, of not listening to the earth as She is calling out to us for help, of losing ourselves in our phones and apps and soon, AI, what if this is all part of the evolving story.
And what if it’s not about a “God” or “Divine” Way Up There or Way In Here but we ARE this Divine evolving consciousness, having forgotten who we really are, and slowly waking up.
As we are waking up in a fog, in confusion, isn’t it natural and the most obvious thing, then, that we would act in ways which do not honor each other, which fulfilled our delusional selfish preoccupations?
So maybe we can support each other. Let’s help each other not just to wake up, but to find ways to let that inner Light (who was that dark skinned Palestinian rabbi who told us that within us is the Light of the world, that we ARE the Light of the world) shine and transform this apparent sad, paralyzed sad earth into a beautiful, alive dynamic, celebratory, wondrous, awesome place of habitation for all living beings?
